What Are The Steps?

Attend an Orientation

The orientation is an informal meeting for you to learn the process, ask
questions and decide whether foster parenting is the right choice for you
and your family.

Orientation meetings are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays and once a
month on Saturday. Please call (916) 641-0661 to RSVP.

Complete an Application

An application will need to be completed that includes information about
your family, family history, and the reasons you are interested in
becoming a foster parent.

Criminal Background Check

Live scan process through the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau
Investigation and Child Abuse Index.

Home Consultation

A home visit is scheduled with you for a home health and safety

Family Assessment

Social workers will make several visits to your home to review your
lifestyle, personal history, family dynamics and home setting.


Attend a series of training classes. You will also be required to complete
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First-Aid Training.


You are ready for a child to be placed in your home.


You will begin to receive children into your home.
